Anyone interested in the Role of Intelligence Agencies in our New and Insecure World should come to a talk on Saturday 9 June, 10 am to 12 noon, Batemans Bay Community Centre, Museum Place, Batemans Bay.
This interesting talk will be given by John Blaxland, Professor of International Security and Intelligence Studies at ANU, where he is also the Head of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre. A frequent media commentator on defence and international security issues, on this occasion Professor Blaxland will be exploring how Australia can protect its citizens against the security threats that have stemmed from such developments as globalisation, migration and the breaking down of borders.
Professor Blaxland has extensive experience in the intelligence community, most notably as a leading author of a three-volume official history of ASIO. Before this he had served as the principal intelligence officer for the Australian Brigade in East Timor, in 1999; as an exchange officer in Washington DC; and as Director of Joint Intelligence operations at HQJOC in 2006-7.
