Eurobodalla Libraries have got storytime down to a science thanks to a new program aimed at three- to five-year-olds.
Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma Libraries have introduced the Little Bang Discovery Club, designed by the Children’s Discovery Museum, into four storytime sessions this year.
Council’s Manager Libraries and Culture Linda Heald said with the emphasis on STEM education in schools (science, technology, engineering and maths), Little Bang was a great way to introduce pre-schoolers to science learning in a hands-on way.
“It’s a fun-filled program that combines everyday objects and experiences with genuine scientific enquiry,” she said.
“They can have fun with the natural elements and gain an understanding of how the world works through simple age-appropriate experiments. It’s also a really good way to show parents the many and varied learning opportunities in everyday things.”
The Little Bang program will culminate with a science fair offering a range of educational activities for children at the end of the year.
Storytime is free and held weekly during the school term from 10.30am at Batemans Bay Library on Mondays, Moruya Library on Wednesdays, and Narooma Library on Thursdays.
The program offers another dimension to the many and diverse offerings of Eurobodalla libraries that include regular art exhibitions, events, and children’s activities.
