New fishing platform for Moruya

Construction of a new fishing platform at Russ Martin Park in Moruya starts this week.

The timber platform will be connected to the shared path near the rotunda, extending out over the river by a few metres.

According to Council’s Director of Infrastructure Warren Sharpe, the structure will be an appealing new feature for anglers and sightseers.

“We’re always grateful for grants from the NSW Government’s Recreational Fishing Trust that allow us to construct marine infrastructure such as this.

“It gives the whole community more opportunities to experience our fantastic waterways,” he said.

“The fishing platform will be four-metres wide and made of timber decking on steel piles, extending over the river at the same level as the shared pathway nearby.

“The platform is wheelchair-accessible and handrails will cater for anglers with limited mobility.”

Mr Sharpe said the proposal for the fishing platform was developed in consultation with Batemans Bay Marine Park and the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust.

Good weather conditions permitting, Council predicts the new fishing platform will be finished by Christmas.
