Are these Council Signs Legal?

Is this is another unlawful, oppressive and deceptive move by Council to ban pet dogs from all public places in the Eurobodalla Shire?

Unlawful - because nowhere in the Companion Animals Act 1998, is there any prohibition on dogs being walked “on-leash” in public places.

Oppressive - because it removes the rights of pet dog owners to freely exercise with their dogs on-leash in public places.

Deceptive, because Council is in effect prohibiting dog owners from exercising with their dogs on-leash in public places not officially declared as dog prohibited under the Companion Animals Act 1998.

So Council, what legal instrument are you using to ban the walking of pet dogs on-leash in public places? ??

The Companion Animals Act 1998, gives the Council the power to “prohibit dogs” in SOME public places,

The Companion Animals Act 1998, gives Council the power to declare a public place as being a dog “off-leash” area.

But nowhere, nowhere in the Companion Animals Act 1998, is there any prohibition of dog owners with their dogs “on-leash” in public places.

This is just one more example of the utter contempt shown by this Council (and the Councilors who allow these changes) towards pet dogs and their owners in the Eurobodalla Shire.

No need to consult with the community or to put these unlawful changes to the rights of pet dog owners out for public consultation, was there?
