Police seek assistance regarding second Surf Beach fire

On Monday afternoon (4/9/17) a fire broke out between the Surf Beach tip and Old Grandfathers Gully Rd in Surf Beach. Under strong westerly winds and the current dry conditions there was potential for this fire to become difficult to control. A timely and professional response from RFS crews and FRNSW brought this fire under control quickly with no damage to property.

Crews have patrolled overnight and will continue to strengthen containment lines today ahead of more strong winds. Residents and passing motorists can expect to see smoke for a number of days.

The cause of this fire is being investigated and if anyone has any information they should contact the police.

Please take this as a reminder that now is the time to make sure you're prepared. Fires don't only happen in summer!
