Batemans Bay's Water Gardens are looking great, and further work from a Green Army team is set to further improve the area.
The federal-government funded Green Army will work in the Gardens until September, removing weeds and rubbish, laying mulch, and planting native shrubs and grasses. They will also install wildlife cameras to monitor native and feral animals and mount nest boxes in the tree canopy for birds and gliders.
Their efforts build on Council’s work last year to clear vegetation and return a park-like appearance.
Meanwhile, Eurobodalla’s flying foxes have made their annual migration north for warmer weather.
Early May, flying fox numbers were as low as 300 at Catalina golf course, and camps at Tuross Head, Narooma and Batemans Bay’s Water Gardens were empty. It followed a peak of around 4,000 flying foxes shire-wide in March, in contrast to the 200,000 flying foxes experienced in Eurobodalla last year.
