Council’s environment education team is ready to hit the road with a snazzy new trailer.
Funded by Landcare NSW and matched with Council funds, the $7000 trailer is a one-stop shop for environmental education.
It was purpose-built by Council’s metal fabrication team and features storage on one side and a solar-powered environmental education display on the other.
The display includes a TV that can be connected to the internet via an iPad, perfect for showing educational films, demonstrating Council’s Weeds Finder, instructing how to use the national marine debris database and displaying the wealth of information on Council’s website.
The trailer made its debut at the Mossy Point Meet and Greet event last month and Council’s natural resource supervisor Heidi Thomson said it was a hit.
“People were drawn to it,” she said.
“It makes things so much easier for us. Previously we would struggle to set up a marquee and tables, and we would cart around so many storage boxes of gear, before packing it up and doing it all again.
“Now everything we need is in one place, set up and ready to go.”

Excluding their regular work with local schools, the environmental education team is out and about in the wider community up to twice a month at markets and events, hosting plant swaps, school holiday activities, and marine debris working group education initiatives as well as Landcare projects.
The trailer will make its next appearance on World Environment Day, Thursday 1 June, at Batemans Bay’s Village Centre.
“If the community has any events they would like us to come along to with the trailer, please let us know, we’re always keen to raise awareness of environmental issues,” Heidi said.
“Landcare groups are also welcome to have the trailer at their working bees or educational events.”
