Rosedale rocks up for revegetation

Many hands make light work, and that was certainly the case at Rosedale Landcare’s Easter working bee.

It’s a tricky time of year to ask people to volunteer their time. Potential recruits are busy travelling, entertaining family and friends, not to mention hunting for Easter eggs.

So Council’s environment team and Rosedale Landcare were pleasantly surprised when 40 people showed up on Easter Saturday to help plant native species in areas around Rosedale that had been affected by last year’s big storms.

Volunteers banded together and planted 200 plants in record time, as well as tackling weed infestations in the same location.

Council’s Natural Resource Supervisor, Heidi Thomson said there was plenty of youthful energy and enthusiasm in the crowd of willing workers.

“It’s fantastic to have families and their children, grandchildren and visitors come and join in the fun,” she said.

“We were especially thrilled to see the next generation of landcarers so well represented.

“Landcare in Eurobodalla is open to all ages and it was great to see so many local kids and young people getting involved in their community and taking the time to care for the natural environment.

“We’re so lucky here in Eurobodalla to have such beautiful and relatively pristine environments, however we need the community’s help to keep them this way. That’s why our Landcare volunteers are so important and valued.”
