In February Council advised of the minor upgrade planned for the Plantation Point Memorial Gardens and placed the plans on public exhibition until 6 March.
The majority of feedback received expressed support for retaining the self-seeded Norfolk Pine growing on the shoreline behind the gardens.
As a result of the community consultation, Council will be proceeding with the upgrades as planned, with the exception of the optional removal of this tree, which will be retained.
Council confirms that the upgrade will include:
• filling the embankment to enlarge the area where the horses stand during the Anzac Day Service to improve safety and manoeuvrability during the ceremony
• replacing three existing picnic table settings and three seats, making one table setting fully accessible for people with a disability and relocating one seat slightly from the present location
• clearing, levelling and re-grassing the north western entry to create an open vista to the garden area.
It is intended that the embankment be filled prior to Anzac Day 2017 and other works will be completed before the end of June.
