11am, Saturday 11 March 2017

Moruya Quarry Park, North Head Drive, Moruya

Joining Rotary Moruya to celebrate the upgrade to this significant heritage park, first established by Moruya Rotary Club over 30 years ago, were Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes, members of the Moruya Quarry Park Sunset Steering Committee and representatives from Engineers Australia and representatives from Moruya Rotary past and present.

An interpretive panel and heritage plaque in recognition of the importance of the granite quarrying history of this site was also unveiled.

A community barbecue will follow the opening events.

For those unfamiliar with this much enjoyed facility Moruya Quarry Park is on the northern bank of the Moruya River, approximately 5km from Moruya.

Moruya Rotary Club established the park next to the historic Moruya Quarry over 30 years ago noting that the quarry was an important part of Moruya's history, dating back to the early years of settlement.

To Make a Bridge. Where did the granite of the Sydney Harbour Bridge come from?

Granite from the quarry was used to construct the Sydney Harbour Bridge and other iconic Australian buildings.

A landscape plan was drafted in consultation outlining progressive improvements to the park as funding and resources became available.
