Eurobodalla Council are now set to start constructing the water supply and sewerage scheme for the village of Nelligen after revisiting key aspects of the project.
Council made the decision to alter the design of some infrastructure to reduce environmental impacts, improve constructability and provide a better outcome for the community.
Work will start on the ground in January 2023 with construction of the concrete water reservoirs, followed by the pump stations and pipelines. The installation of the infrastructure within the village will be the last part of the project to start. All going well, Council aims to have everything complete by late 2024.
Water reservoirs Two water reservoirs are required as part of the water supply component of the project. The reservoirs will be located at Clyde Road, North Batemans Bay and Old Nelligen Road, Nelligen. They have been designed to ensure there is adequate supply for firefighting purposes, even during times of peak holiday demand.
Council has awarded the construction contract for the reservoirs to Leed Engineering and Construction Pty Ltd, and construction will begin in January 2023.
Council have changed the alignment of the water and sewer pipelines running from Batemans Bay to Nelligen to make it easier to install and to minimise impacts on the local environment. These changes required additional hydraulic analysis and environmental assessments. This was a timely process, but they are now in the position to advertise the tenders for construction of the pipelines as well as the pump stations with work planned to start in May 2023.
In April 2023 Council will advertise for tenders for the installation of the water and sewer infrastructure within the village. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2023.
The contractor will be responsible for installing:
• water and sewer mains within Nelligen village
• a water meter and connection point on each property
• pressure sewer systems on each property.
Council say that they understand the delays in bringing this project to fruition may be causing some frustration to the community. "We hope you can appreciate the complexity of such a large project and the various processes that can take considerable time. We thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to bring this important infrastructure to the village of Nelligen".
