A group of dedicated local volunteers come together every Friday to repair items that are cherished by members of the community. Tools, materials and specialist help are all available at the Repair Cafe.
SHASA President Kathryn Maxwell said “we encourage people to bring along their broken items and spend time with the repairers to watch and learn how the repairs are made. Too many things get thrown away that don't need to be.”
The Repair Cafe provides a friendly and welcoming environment. We encourage people to stay and chat over a cuppa and yummy cakes and biscuits.
“In the first 3 weeks of operation the team have repaired small electrical items (we have a qualified test and tager), lamps, vacuum cleaners, string instruments, sewing machines, whipper snipper, clothing repairs including patches, button replacement and mending holes and minor ceramic breakages including a fridge magnet. From next Friday the Repair Cafe will also undertake basic bicycle repairs. We ask those whose goods have been repaired to make a donation to help cove costs of materials”said Kathryn Maxwell.
The Repair Cafe is open from 9am till 12 noon every Friday at the Red Door Hall, St Johns Church, Page Street, Moruya.
