Your Up to Date fishing report from the Team at Tackle World Moruya

Moruya River
 Most of the reported activity has been in the lower sections of the river this week. Trevally have been reported around Preddy’s wharf as have some reasonable luderick. Small soft plastic and baits have accounted for the trevally, while baits of small prawns and strips of squid seemed to have been tempting the luderick. The flats around the airport have seen a few slow flathead mooching around. Lots of cast with small to medium sized soft plastics are required to get the bite. Quarry wharf on the north side can hold a few fish with the odd tailor, bream and flathead turning up there from time to time.
 

Tuross River
 Good numbers of luderick have started to hold down around the boat sheds in the lower half of the system this week. They can be tempted with lightly weighted rigs of prawn or weed. Underneath these schools, the odd mulloway has been known to hide. Tide changes are the best periods to target the mighty mulloway. Live baits, hardbody lures or soft plastics can all tempt them into biting. There are still plenty of big winter bream to tempt in and around the oyster racks and the surrounding areas. Shallow running hardbody lures and baits of live nippers will be the undoing of this bread and butter species.
 

Rock and beach
 Well, haven’t we seen a big week of swells this week - with swells to approx 6-7m this week not a lot of beach or rock fishing has been happening. Before the swells moved in though, good numbers of salmon were being caught around the Congo area. Once the swell drops making the rocks accessible again, this area would be a good one to try for those wanting to have a crack at a few salmon. Get up high onto a headland and look for dark masses in the breakers or just behind to find the schools of salmon. A big swell will get a lot of species biting, once it starts to drop away. Good numbers of drummer, and even snapper could be encountered. Just be sure that the ledge you want to fish is safe to do so.
 

Offshore
 Early last week there were still a few yellowfin being caught out wide. How this fishes once the game crews can get out again, will be anyone’s guess. The inshore reefs should be firing with good snapper around, once it is safe to get out through all the local bar crossings.
