Well deserved recognition for ABC Emergency coverage of the fires

The Australian Senate this week passed an unanimous motion acknowledging the role of the ABC Emergency Broadcasting Service in the continuing bushfire crisis.
 
 In the South East our own ABC South East radio has been there through it all covering the emergency updates, the interviews and the stories that brought the region as one to their radio sets as electricity and communications failed.
 
 Our local ABC journalists spread themselves thinly along a 400km coast line, often going one-out with just a phone to call in. Where able they worked in front of camera to bring what was unfolding in the South East to the wider Australian and International audience.
 
 Combining with the many ABC journalists who were holidaying at the time on the South Coast we were gifted with timely, quality reporting of events as they happened and our situation was reported on to the rest of the country as they watched on in disbelief seeing our electricity cut, our communications down, our road links severed and the relentless impact of the fires advancing.
 
 And every hour; 24 / 7 , the ABC was there.
 
 This week's unanimous motion acknowledging the role of the ABC Emergency Broadcasting Service in the continuing bushfire crisis is well deserved.
