Two weeks have passed on the Bay Pool decision and Council remains Shtum

Most of the Eurobodalla community remain unaware that Council voted to accept a tender to construct the new Batemans Bay pool and hall. The construction is estimated to be in the order of $70 million making use of the $55 million in grants and the Eurobodalla community kicking in to cover THE GAP of $15 million from sales of public reserves and buildings Council deems "surplus to use".

In what is the largest project ever undertaken by Council it is more than concerning that the Council has not issued any media release on this momentous decision.

The General Manager, Catherine Dale, has been given instruction to liaise with the winning tenderer to see if there is any opportunity to bring the tender price down.

Having already brought the facility down from its original capacities to bare minimums it is widely considered that there is little room to make any further cuts. Even the learn to swim pool has been made shallower and the proposed water slide identified as "a future feature".

The facility is offered referred to as a "Once In A Lifetime" opportunity.

Maybe there is an answer in the prophetic words of "Once In A Lifetime" by Talking Heads

And you may find yourself

Living in a shotgun shack

And you may find yourself

In another part of the world

And you may find yourself

Behind the wheel of a large automobile

And you may find yourself in a beautiful house

With a beautiful wife

And you may ask yourself, well

How did I get here?

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again after the money's gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself

How do I work this?

And you may ask yourself

Where is that large automobile?

And you may tell yourself

This is not my beautiful house!

And you may tell yourself

This is not my beautiful wife!

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go…
