Region X at Mossy is a drop off point for Lids4Kids

Josh and his team at Region X Unspoilt Experiences Batemans Bay NSW are proud to announce that their Boat Shed in Mossy Point is now a collection point for the brilliant initiative Lids for Kids.

The Boat Shed is now an official drop-off point in the Shire so you now have somewhere to drop your bottle lids off (from 7:30am to 2pm - 7 days) to to then be turned into prosthetic limbs for children.

Envision Hands, a non-for-profit organisation based at Wheelers Hill in Victoria, processes low and high density (Numbers 2 and 4) bottle lids and turns them into new prosthetic limbs using 3D printing.

The lids are first shredded and then fed through an extruder, which produces an ink-like filament. It is that filament that is then used, in conjunction with 3D software, to print the mobility aids.

Just a friendly reminder to PLEASE make sure your bottle caps are clean. This is really important as it saves a lot of time on the teams sorting them (they are also pretty gross when they get mouldy!)

How to ensure they are clean:

- Remove the foam insert and Rinse before any residue has hardened or mould formed on the cap. The sooner you rinse the better!

- Wash them in the sink with your dishes

- Put them in a wash bag in the washing machine (be careful!)

- Pop them in the dishwasher (again, please be careful!)

Please have a look at the caps you're donating, it really just takes a second but will save us so much time!
