I don't often feel the need to say anything but after the recent fires, it is evident that support of local businesses is a one way street for some people.
Case in point the demolishing of the homemaker centre. From what I can see a Nowra company has been employed for the demo work. I do not know who owns the homemaker centre.
Another one is the Malua Bay Bowling Club which has been demolished by another company not from this area.
I have also noted other contractors from out of this are ESC also contracted to do clean up work, how does this help the local economy.
I can tell you a company from Sydney has been awarded the contract for the cleanup work and they have indicated they would employ local contractors.
Local contractors spend money in towns, employ local people etc etc. Money going out of the area is not helping anyone. From my understanding council has not yet figured out where they will put all material from fire-affected houses so I am not sure how companies are able to demolish and process materials unless they are being trucked out of the area.
The only thing I can figure out with the Homemaker centre and Malua Bay club is that they would be considered commercial businesses.
Maybe readers of the Beagle have more info.
