Pedestrian safety upgrade coming to Princes Highway at Cobargo

Pedestrians will soon enjoy easier and safer crossings of the Princes Highway with improvements proposed for Cobargo.

Transport for NSW Regional Director South, Sam Knight said a new kerbside pedestrian refuge will be installed between Tarlinton Street and Cobargo Bermagui Road at the southern end of Cobargo.

“This will provide a safer way for pedestrians to cross the highway, and make it easier for locals and visitors to access shops and services,” Ms Knight said.

“The proposed design includes kerb blisters and line markings to create a safer crossing point, and minimises the number of parking spots lost while delivering improved pedestrian safety.

“This work is part of ongoing plans to improve the safety of the Princes Highway for all road users, not just motorists.”

Work is on track to start in mid-2021 and the refuge will take a week to construct, weather permitting.

The new crossing, including new No Stopping zones, will take the place of five parking spots and Transport for NSW is contacting nearby businesses and properties to understand how impacts can be minimised both during and after construction.
