At 7.45pm on Sunday 20 September 2020, emergency services were called to a building on fire at Noorooma Crescent, Narooma
The commercial building was found well alight. The blaze was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW, with the building destroyed and a neighbouring business suffering smoke and water damage. A crime scene was established, which was forensically examined.
For nearly seven months the smoke affected premises of Mitre 10 have not been able to trade and access to their property has been restricted.
Today the Member for Eden Monaro, Kristy McBain posted the good news that her intervention has now brought about an action from Eurobodalla Council.
The Federal member has posted:
"UPDATE: I apologise to the owners of the property for any hurt this post may have caused. I am aware of the work that they are doing to deal with this issue. I was seeking clarification on what was happening on behalf of community members.
Thank you to members of the Narooma community who have contacted me regarding the clean up of 2 Noorooma Crescent.
Following my recent correspondence, the Eurobodalla Shire Council confirmed that an urgent order has been issued for its demolition and removal of asbestos.
Please contact my Bega office on 6492 0542 if there is anything that you require assistance with in your local community."
Below is the letter received from Eurobodalla Council dated May 7th 2021. Note the date mentioned by council is incorrect (the date of the fire was Sunday 20 September 2020)
