The next show at Gallery Bodalla features recent paintings by John Sharman Plein-Air WA, and Amanda Williams Pastel Plus commencing Thursday 31 October until Sunday 1 December.
Everyone is most welcome to opening drinks with John and Amanda, Saturday 2 November at 3pm with music by Julie Brooking - mandolin, & Bill Herringe - guitar.
Working in his trademark realist manner, on the edge of impressionism, this body of work is based on John Sharman’s skilful, sensitive observations of the Western Australian landscape, experienced on his recent trip there. These vibrant oils, painted en plein air, demonstrate John’s reputation as a fine artist and capture the mood and changing light unique to WA.
John has lived on the south coast most of his adult life, the last 28 years in Mogo. He turned to full time professional art practice in 1980 after coming to grips with the dark wash technique and achieving considerable success with his work.
Amanda William’s collection is a combination of her well known traditional plein air, pastel landscapes from various painting trips, and some more modern works with mixed media and collage. She captures the light, shadows, shape and form of the country and sea, and the beauty and feelings it evokes.
Amanda attended the National Art School in East Sydney attaining a Diploma of Fine Arts in 1990. She then returned to the South Coast, and with her mother Stephanie, bought an art supply store in Mogo in 1999, creating Amanda’s of Mogo which is now celebrating 20 years.
