England Athletics said of the event "The nation’s best athletes made their way to Bedford keen to show everybody they have a new generation ready and raring to go. Athletes in the U23 age group stepped up to take national titles, while younger new-to-the-top-level competitors made sure the selectors knew what they’re all about. This championship is always about making a mark and that’s exactly how day one unfolded."

An in the middle of it all was Jaylah Hancock-Cameron and a handful of other invited Australians keen to show the Poms why next generation Australian athletes should be taken very seriously at future Commonwealth games.

Above: Khanisa Mhlanga (Herts Phoenix) produced a great final 60 metres to overhaul Australia’s Jaylah Hancock-Cameron to win in 4:20.65.
