How will they measure up?

In this week's Observer editorial they offer that integrity is one of the seven principles of public life, alongside selflessness, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership first set out by Lord Nolan in 1995 in the first report of the Committee on Standards in Public Life and set out the ethical standards to which all those who work in the public sector should adhere.

With the upcoming Eurobodalla Council election in September 2021 the seven principles might well be applied to measuring the past performance of our councillors and the measure that could be applied to prospective candidates.

Keeping in mind that the seven principles are not just for the elected but for all those who work in the public sector we might also take the opportunity to review the performance of our Federal members, our State Member and our senior Eurobodalla Executive.

Over the coming months there will be every opportunity for our civic leaders to be measured against the seven principles along with other key identifiers such as engagement, empathy, representation, accessibility, communication and value
