More than a dozen surf lifesavers from the Elouera Surf Patrol have been in Narooma over the past two weekends to help patrol Narooma and other beaches as the usual local crews were a bit short of volunteers because of the fires.
Cath Peachey of Narooma told The Beagle "These men and women came down off their own back, paid their own way, are staying in local accommodation and supporting the town. Such a terrific generosity of community spirit".
Garry Fleming of the Elouera Surf Patrol said it was a pleasure to offer assistance to the Narooma crews and provide patrols over a week leading up to the busy Australia Day weekend.
"The hospitality that Narooma have given us has been terrific. At a dinner we had at La Bocca, with eighteen of the club present, we were embraced like family", Garry said.
With most of the patrol now returned or returning Garry said " There will be a bunch of us getting together to have a belated Australia Day BBQ. We will be sharing our purchases from the Tilba Cheese Factory and the Tilba Winery".
Today is the last day of official beach patrols by paid lifeguards until next summer.
Eurobodalla Lifeguards are provided by Lifeguarding Services Australia services on behalf of the Eurobodalla Shire Council.
