BBay Community Centre : Back to the Future

The Beagle Editor,

On the 28th of May 2019, three very well respected members of the community presented to Council regarding the Batemans Bay Community Centre and its future.

They were:

Dr Sue Mackenzie (President of PerfEx),

Alan Russell (Manager of Meals on Wheels, President of Rotary and former Head of College St Peters Anglican College) and

David Maclachlan (then President Batemans Bay Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, original member of the Sunset Committee).

At this meeting, a petition containing 1,001 signatures,  on behalf of the community, was presented to Council urging it to 'maintain the Batemans Bay Community Centre in perpetuity for the community.'

A motion was passed unanimously to 'defer a decision on the Batemans Bay Community Centre  until the capital and operation costs for the Batemans Bay Regional Aquatic, Arts and Leisure Centre have been determined based on actual tendered prices.'

It is of note that throughout these three presentations, the General Manager, Clrs Brown and Pollock appear unable or unwilling to even look at these presenters, with the General Manager looking decidedly nervous when valid points were raised.

Fast forward to July 2020.

There is no opportunity for the community to observe/listen to such eloquent important presentations made on their behalf because a majority of our elected representatives, our Councillors, voted to cease live streaming/recording of such Public Forum presentations.
