of promises and voting practices

The Beagle Editor,

This year ( March 23rd ) NSW residents and Voters will be choosing who they want to represent them in Government for the Next Four Years.

Government is owned and funded by the people ( just like the local Council ) not those who become lucky for various reasons and get elected to represent the states population in Macquarie St.

It’s the State's population who choose those they want to represent them in Local and State Government circles,

Right now though those who have decided to nominate for election haven’t been impressive as far as explaining if they are re-elected, or newly elected, how they’ll fund promises they’ve been making.

They have also failed to explain how they plan to actually deliver, in a reasonable time frame, those carrot dangling pork barrelling promises.

What ever occurs on Saturday March 23, those individuals who get elected or re elected will need to be constantly reminded they are servants of the people.

Generally what they’ve been advocating in the run up to the election to suck voters in can be taken with a grain of salt though. The Government will be generally controlled by the state budget already endorsed by many of the candidates. Much of what the state budget 2018 –19 and beyond provides for, to some degree, is locked in. It can’t be changed just because of the election outcome. Voters and candidates need to be aware how the process actually works, and who really is in control. The Local Council operates the same way.

On the issue of physically voting:

The way voting has occurred for decades with people turning up at designated polling areas is really dinosaur stuff and needs to changed to modernise it all.

Voting could or can be done electronically or by postal voting removing the polling booth fiasco business that occurs now.

Our community leaders should be advocating to change and modernise how our compulsory voting arrangements occur and save money as well as time.
