North Broulee’s compliant sand warmed up for its annual New Year Eve’s sand castle competition by hosting an early event by St Peters Anglican College on 11 December. A well nourished dog, fat pig, happy hippo, african elephant, sandy dolphins, super sized guitar and snooker table erupted from the normally placid sands.
“Browning House won with a fine sculpture of a very red nosed reindeer”, said St Peters teacher Luke Fuller. “We’re so lucky to live in a place where students can have a competition like this. It’s our third.”
“We’re looking forward to the New Year’s Eve competition, it’ll be the 18th’’, said organizer Deb Waser of the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association.
“To fit in with the tide, it’s earlier than usual with registration starting at 9.30am and the competition going from 11.30am-12.30pm. There’ll be the usual three categories of juniors, open sandcastles and open sculptures. Entry fee is $10 per team (up to five in a team).”
