Forces at work here? Secretive, nasty things hiding in the dark? Or is it just the Gang of Seven bac

The Beagle Editor,

IN WHOSE INTEREST ARE OUR COUNCILLORS ACTING?

Last Tuesday’s council meeting saw our councillors having to select 2 of their own as delegates on Council’s Audit Risk and Improvement Committee.

There were 3 nominations: Clr Brown, Clr Constable and Clr McGinlay.

Clr Mayne suggested that as it was such an important role, it would be a good idea to, “hear from candidates as to what they would bring to the committee.”

The Chair responded, “You can ask councillor, but they're not compelled to answer.”

Clr McGinlay was the only one who responded.

He has had, “7 years in management roles in the organisation,” providing him with the understanding of the, “financial system and issues faced by staff.”

He has also had, “5 years experience as a professional auditor with the National Audit Office, which would bring a fair degree of understanding of the actual audit process and the complexities of that.”

WELL, HOLY MOLY GUACAMOLE, PICK HIM, PICK HIM!

BUT THEY DIDN’T!

They voted for Clrs Constable and Brown.

Now, why on earth would anyone vote for Clr Brown to be on the Audit Committee, of all things?

He was recently forced to resign from Local Government NSW due to some sort of financial impropriety, the particulars of which have not been publically divulged.

It beggars belief that our councillors chose to ignore the considerable expertise of one of their colleagues, in favour of one whose integrity has been found wanting by a state authority.

Councillors,

Do you not believe that your community deserves the most knowledgeable and experienced person for the job?

Do you not realise that choosing someone with such expertise inspires community trust and confidence.

By not selecting the ‘best person for the job’, our Councillors have failed in their duty to ‘act in the public interest’, our interest.

But the most important question of all is, why did they do it?

There must be other ‘forces’ at work here - secretive, nasty things hiding in the dark – otherwise this decision makes no sense whatsoever.

Two months in the dunce corner writing this line over and over will still result in dumb decisions being made based on pig headedness and preservation of "Our Gang" ideologies.
