Zero tolerance for exploitation of workers

In her latest Media release Ann Sudmalis asks "How many times have you heard that someone isn’t being paid correctly?"

"The Fair Work Ombudsman this week has released details of an audit in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane that found a high rate of non-compliance, in businesses such as cafes, grocery stores and restaurants."

Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis said “From the audit over $470,000 has been recovered for 616 workers, legal action has commenced against one employer and more than a hundred have either been issued with infringement notices or been given cautions.”

“The results show the Fair Work Ombudsman is doing its job, uncovering cases where workers have not been paid what’s owed and this serves as a warning to employers currently doing the wrong thing.”

“The Turnbull Government has zero tolerance for exploitation of workers. This is why we restored the $20 million in funding Labor cut from the Fair Work Ombudsman and introduced tougher laws to crack down on employers who do the wrong thing,” Mrs Sudmalis said.

"If people believe they are not being paid correctly or know of someone in this situation they should contact the Fair Work Ombudsman."
