Refugee Week sends blunt message to Liberals saying "Fifth year incarcerated on Nauru is nothin

Refugee Week 2018 saw some keen Refugee Actionistas crunching about in the frost at the Moruya markets, raising much-needed funds, broader awareness and a mouldy tent!

The Meeting Basic Needs Sale was indeed hugely successful.

"We erected the mouldy tent so people could get a real feel for how traumatised asylum seekers on Nauru are being treated. Families are living with toxic mould which is seventy six times the safe level," said Sarah Cowan from RAC Eurobodalla,

"There are so many women, children and men living in danger on Nauru (and Manus), not being able to afford the very basics of life. We have an ongoing interest in making sure these traumatised people have communication with their families, and also for their own safety. It is also important to us that the public get some balanced facts.

"Considering the most recent of a string of tragedies, it seems evident that Australia is not providing the medical or psychological essentials so desperately needed.

"There have been 12 deaths in offshore detention since its introduction, and July marks the fifth year of this inhumane policy."
