The highly anticipated new computed tomography (CT) scanner for Eurobodalla Health Service was delivered this week. Technical crews are now installing and testing the scanner, ready for a go live on 4 September.

This project was made possible through a $2.3 million dollar funding allocation from the NSW Government. Part of the funding has also been used for improvements to Digital Radiography equipment and a full refurbishment of all spaces in Medical Imaging at Moruya Hospital. New staff including a receptionist is currently being recruited to the expanded service.
In addition an ultrasound space is being developed; with equipment for this being purchased by the Moruya and Narooma Hospital Auxiliaries. Recruitment for this service is also underway.
“This is a great step forward for Medical Imaging in Eurobodalla Health Service and means hospital patients will have 24/7 access to CT and X-ray at the Moruya site, which will reduce the number of patients currently transferred to the ACT for CT scans after hours,” Southern NSW Local Health District Acting Chief Executive, Julie Mooney said.
“The scanner will also allow patients to remain in hospital for imaging services, instead of travelling off-site to external providers,” Ms Mooney said.
This high quality service is provided for all inpatient and emergency patients from Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals and is also available bulk-billed through Medicare for private referrals from general practitioners and specialists.
