Narooma Oyster Festival organisers are ‘absolutely thrilled’ that Narooma Sporting & Services Club has become a major sponsor of this year’s Festival on 6th May.
Club President Graham Reeves and General Manager Tony Casu presented a cheque for $8,500 to Festival committee representatives Adrian Fisse and David Maidment on Friday.
‘The Club is right behind the Festival organisers,’ Mr Casu said.
‘It has to be involved in supporting the town and the efforts of so many volunteers to boost trade and tourism in quieter times. Without their efforts and the comraderie that comes with it we wouldn’t have the community we have.’
Mr Fisse said the Festival was originally instigated by Narooma Chamber of Commerce as a signature experience to attract people from outside the area.
‘That’s still our focus with the 2017 Festival,’ Mr Fisse said. ‘The idea is to showcase the region and its fabulous seafood, especially oysters, entice visitors to stay a few days at a traditionally slower time of year, and encourage them to return.’
‘We’re so grateful for the Club’s ongoing support; without such support and the widespread support we’re getting from the community the Festival just would not happen.’
More than 50 stallholders have already booked for Saturday’s Festival (from 10am to 4pm).
The Festival will have a free community concert and fireworks on the Friday night. Full details to come.
