Moruya bypass - is there a plan for another bridge and if not why not?

Dear Editor,

Moruya bypass - is there a plan for another bridge and if not why not?

With the holiday season upon us were are reminded that the Princes Highway cannot cope and with bottle necks including Albion Park, Nowra, Milton through to Ulladulla and now Batemans Bay & Moruya.

The Sydney to Eurobodalla road trip can double in time with reports of 7 to 8 hours in peak time.

Recent bridge work at Moruya only highlighted the large amount of traffic on the highway in a normal day and how quickly large numbers of cars built up.

Last Xmas visiting friends from Switzerland took two hours to journey from Tuross Head to Batemans Bay. Everyone knows it is caused by the one set of traffic lights in Moruya and many believe it could be alleviated during peak season yet it seems Council and RMS turn a blind eye to resolving the issue probably because it would involve time & money.

Moruya is blessed with ample room for another bridge and roadway to bypass the town. Is Council and RMS looking into the future?

Editors Note: In the Council report of Dec 13th it stated in regards to the Princes Highway corridor:

"Council has previously had discussions with the RMS regarding the need to undertake the long term planning for a by-pass of the township of Moruya. However, this is beyond the RMS’ current planning horizon and was not included in the Princes Highway corridor strategy "

"This re-affirms the proposed approach by the NSW Government to utilise the existing highway route through Eurobodalla rather than create a new ‘by-pass’ route."
