Photographers capture solitude
Judging for the projected and open competitions at the Eurobodalla Photographic Club’s October
meeting was conducted by Bronwynne Kidson from the Milton Ulladulla Camera Club.
The monthly topic for the projected section was Solitude and a gold award in this section was
awarded to Marie Lund for her image of an Arctic bear entitled Spring in the Arctic.
Marie is a local artist, photographer and educator and has participated in a number of exhibitions
and workshops. She has recently exhibited a photography collection focussed on water at the
Mildura Art Vault. Earlier Marie had conducted a workshop in Broken Hill on experimental
photography and sun printing. Marie has also provided interesting illustrated talks at the EPC.
Marie and her husband Trevor are inveterate travellers and she captured the image of a polar bear
on an ice floe while on passage from Spitsbergen to Greenland on an Aurora Expeditions cruise in
the Arctic. It well captured the concept of isolation.
Other gold awards among the projected images were awarded to Trevor Lund (The Observer) in the
mono section and to Ric Bannister (Tassie Wilderness) and Anne Brown (In Thought Alone) in the
colour section. Anne Brown’s photograph was awarded Image of the Night.
In the open section of the competition a mono gold was awarded to Beth Westra (Clyde) and
amongst the colour images to Rob Geraghty (Taj Mahal), Brian Gunter (Leo) and Colin Pass (The Eyes
Have It). Brian Gunter was awarded image of the night in this section.
Club President Ken Foster reminded members of the AGM including committee elections to be held
at the next meeting on 22 November. Nominations for the new committee close on 15 November.
Ken also outlined procedures for submitting images of the year for the next meeting and reminded
all members about the Christmas dinner and trophy presentation on 3 December at the Eurobodalla
Regional Botanic Gardens. For that occasion, members were invited to submit two photographs for
an activity and to outline, in 25 words or less, a description of their funniest or scariest photographic moment.
The next meeting will be held at the Tomakin Community Hall at 7 pm on 22 November 2016.
At this meeting, following the AGM, the images of the year will be judged by Russell Field from the Federation of Camera Clubs (NSW).
