Grant to SAGE

$28,800 FOR SAGE TO REDUCE WASTE

Member for Bega Andrew Constance today announced $28,800 under the NSW Government

Waste Less Recycle More initiative grants program to improve recycling.

Mr Constance said the Waste Less Recycle More initiative grant program is designed to

increase recycling opportunities and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

“In this latest round five different grant streams were made available and Sustainable

Agriculture and Gardening Eurobodalla Inc. (SAGE) have been awarded $28,800,” Mr

Constance said.

“SAGE have been successful under the Round 4 Love Food Hate Waste grants program.

“It is a fantastic project and I congratulate them on their willingness to teach and educate our

community about our environment and how we can all help do our bit.

“The SAGE Cook to grow program will provide workshops for young consumers aged between

18 and 24 years. The workshops will teach participants all aspects of the food cycle from

planning meals, shopping and cooking.

“It is also envisaged that the program will skill young people in the process of planning,

purchasing seedlings, growing and eating their own produce,” Mr Constance said.

The NSW Government awarded more than $11 million in NSW Environmental Trust grants to

help councils, communities, not-for- profits and businesses across the state improve their waste

and recycling systems.

Waste Less Recycle More is a comprehensive program designed to improve waste and

recycling behaviours in NSW and is delivered and managed by the EPA.

NSW Environment Minister Mark Speakman said the grants would help to reduce food and

organics waste rotting in landfill, increase infrastructure capabilities and support innovation in

new and improved waste and recycling opportunities.

“Improving our waste and recycling practices through great ideas such as using kitchen caddies

at home for food scraps through to expanding our recycling capabilities is fundamental to

managing our waste volume into the future,” Mr Speakman said.

“Waste Less Recycle More is a multi-million dollar NSW Government investment in supporting

critical infrastructure and service delivery improvements across the state and I congratulate all

of the grant recipients for their initiative and commitment.”
